MCH youth named to TSCAAL All-State Teams

This week, our athletic conference released the list of students included on the TSCAAL 2009-2010 All State Flag Football and Volleyball Teams. The All-State Team membership was determined based on each individual athletes statistics. The coaches then voted for their "dream team," and the highest total points determined the athlete's place on the team.

We are proud to announce that four of our volleyball players made the ten member All-State Volleyball Team and three of our flag football players made the ten member All-State Flag Football Team. Here are the official placements of our youth:

TCSAAL All-State Volleyball
Brittany - 1st
Victoria - 2nd
Taylor - 5th
Ashleigh - 8th

TCSAAL All-State Flag Football
William - 1st
John - 6th
Wade - 8th

Additionally, three of our Flag-Football players - Javen, Chance and Christian - were included as honorable mentions. Way to go Bulldogs!

MCH to the Capitol

Over the holidays, some of our youth had a unique opportunity to tour the Capitol building in Austin. Twenty representatives from Methodist Children's Home made the trip. Russell Devorsky, chief of staff for State Representative Jim Dunnam, arranged the tour. Devorsky even hired a limousine to drive the youth to and from the Capitol.

During their tour, MCH youth and staff were able to view state artifacts and see the Methodist Children's Home ornament on the Lone Star Celebration Christmas Tree. The tree features one ornament from each legislative district in Texas. Methodist Children's Home was selected to create the ornament for District 57. We were honored to be included!

For most of the attending staff and residents, the highlight of the trip was a privileged climb to the very top of the Capitol steeple. Fewer than 100 people have been allowed to view the steeple in the last decade! MCH would like to send a special thank you to Mr. Devorsky for making this trip possible!

Please enjoy the following photos from their trip.

Bicycle Blessings

This Christmas, the First United Methodist Church of Grapevine, Texas gave three truckloads of bicycles to the children of Methodist Children's Home. And this year wasn't the first time the church has given... it was the twenty-first year!

Here are some photos from the donation delivery day this Christmas. The bikes are delivered to the Waco campus and then distributed to various programs and locations.

Thank you to FUMC Grapevine for all you do for our children - past, present and future. We are proud to carry on this tradition with you!

From Crockett to NASA

Our MCH Youth Services and after-school program in Crockett recently took a field trip to NASA headquarters. James Berry, Youth Services program coordinator, arranged for the youth to tour NASA, view space center artifacts and even meet a real astronaut.

Seeing intriguing exhibits and learning more about space was a great way to encourage youth to pursue careers in math and science. Here are some photos from their trip.
