Ms. Stephenia Davis, a participant in the Grandparents as Parents Program (GAPP), is one step closer to realizing her dream of becoming a first-time homeowner through the Waco Habitat for Humanity organization.
Ms. Davis heard about the program during a presentation at a GAPP meeting. She then applied for the program and was selected as a future homeowner. However, each family chosen by Habitat for Humanity is required to put in a large number of volunteer service hours with the organization before their house building even starts. For many prospective homeowners, it can take a long time to put in the required hours to realize their dream.
In July, employees from Mars Snackfoods donated over 40 volunteer hours towards Ms. Davis’ volunteer hours total. And over the course of the summer, youth from our Waco campus have also donated their time on behalf of Ms. Davis.
Because of all of their combined hard work, it is likely that Ms. Davis and her grandchildren will begin groundbreaking on their house sometime this fall!
Following is a photo of Ms. Davis with some of the volunteers from the Mars Snackfoods team.
Thanks to Rehan McNeil from our Grandparents as Parents Program for this inspirational story and photo.
