Fashion Disaster Dance at the Boys Ranch

The MCH Boys Ranch hosted a dance last week for students from the Ranch and their dates from the Waco campus. The theme of the dance was Fashion Disasters with a prize going to the student with the most creative and outlandish costume. Additional contests were held for the best dance moves later in the evening.

Religious Education music director, Colin Campbell, was the DJ for the event, playing music videos for the crowd. The event was small, but all residents had a great time and got some good exercise on the dance floor.

Thanks to Nicole Ehler, director of program services at the Boys Ranch and Kristen Rall, recreation coordinator at the Boys Ranch, for organizing this event and providing the 4-1-1 on the fun that was had at the dance.

Here are a few photos of our youth and their costume creations.

Career Day with Jorge Soto

Jorge Soto, Director of the MCH El Paso Outreach Office, was invited to participate in Career Day at the Walter Clark Middle School on March 4, 2011. The school’s counselor had heard positive things about The Methodist Children’s Home and our services in their community. She asked Jorge to talk about his chosen career in social work, the services that MCH offers and our target population.

Jorge talked about his career to four groups of students who are interested in social work. The students asked a lot of good questions and had a good dialogue with Jorge.

“I enjoyed being with the students and sharing about Methodist Children’s Home,” Jorge said.

Thanks for sharing a message about our ministry Jorge!

Running with Samrawit

Samrawit, an avid runner and resident on the Waco campus, ran in the Waco Striders Running Club’s 32nd Annual Cross Country Trail Run on February 19, 2011. She placed third in the women’s division of the two-mile race.

Samrawit attends A.J. Moore Academy and participated in this event for extra credit for her physical education class. Samrawit ran track at her school in Ethiopia and has enjoyed getting back into the sport since being at the Home. She is currently preparing to participate in the Striders Club’s upcoming five-mile race in March.

Congratulations Samrawit!
